Therapy and counselling for couples
Relationships can come under pressure during various stages of our journey through life. Sleepless nights with a newborn, looking after children whether young or teenagers with ‘attitude’, children leaving home for University or work could potentially strain a relationship. An affair by one partner leading to a loss of trust could have a huge impact on the couple. Retirement, changing identities, bereavement are also reasons for fraught relationships.
As a Couples Therapist I aim to work collaboratively and relationally with both partners. Maintaining strict confidentiality and following the Code of Ethics of my Professional body. I work towards enabling couples to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions; to understand each others experiences and views; to appreciate each others needs and to build on strengths enabling changes in the relationship and lives of people.
Working on patterns of behaviour at the individual level and inter generational level gives us a better understanding of stuck and unhelpful patterns. Enabling better communication, reinstating gratitude and appreciation are often the keys to a better relationship. Equally important is looking at processes of managing differences and conflict resolution. As a couples counsellor I work collaboratively to facilitate a connection between the people in front of me.
